It all comes together - day 4

Bericht - 08 maart 2020 om 06:52 uur

Rain in Kathmandu! After waking up, I already felt it was quite chilly. Looking outside I noticed that it was raining. Being Dutch, we manage rain. So no problem!

I know that I am repeating myself, but again this day was an amazing day! We started off with some reflection, with the question: 'With what kind of feeling do you want to go home today?' Because we learned from our experience of the last couple of days, we knew that we had to give them some time to think about an answer to this question. We decided to give them (...)

Improvising: the word of the day!

Bericht - 06 maart 2020 om 16:15 uur

Day three has ended, and it was again an amazing day. Of course Gerrit and I had planned the day in advance, and worked out a number of activities, reflection methods and theories. However, when we started the day, we quickly discovered that we needed to change our programme and improvise. I will try to explain why.
Yesterday evening, when Gerrit and I were evaluating the second day, we talked about the proactiveness and response of the trainees. When we ask a question in the whole group, often the same two or three trainees answer. The rest remains silent. This is (...)

Improvising, according to the needs of the trainees

It is all about communication!

Bericht - 06 maart 2020 om 04:07 uur

Namaste! Day 2 of the training is already over, and what a day it was. If I have to put the day into one sentence, I would probably say: it was an interesting day, filled with fun, chaos and lots of learning moments, during which we trainers had to work very hard to get the message across.

Today the theme was communication. We started off with an exercise I do with my students back home as well. This exercise is called traffic jam. There was total chaos in the group during this traffic jam! Just like the situation in Kathmandu (...)

It's training time!

Bericht - 04 maart 2020 om 17:09 uur

Wednesday, March 4th 2020

After having prepared our training carefully over the last days, and seeing the Dolpo community centre yesterday as well, it was time for Gerrit and me to actually start the training today. Dolma (Pema's younger sister) picked us up from the guesthouse, and we walked to the Dolpo community centre. Quite some people were already waiting there, and some of them were preparing the room and hanging up the banner that they made for the training.
We started off with an introduction of ourselves, and telling the attendees why we do what we do. I also introduced the programme (...)

Time just flies!

Bericht - 09 maart 2019 om 16:57 uur

Our training has already ended! It is amazing how time goes by so quickly. A couple of days ago Gerrit and I were still modifying our training, and here we are: finished. We had awesome days! The students immediately stole my heart. They are amazing, so friendly and enthusiastic, and so willing to learn and excited to do new things! From the first day we met, I felt we had a click. They participated extremely well, which made it even more great. All the activities, all the exercises, all the theory, and all the reflection: they all took it in, (...)

Zij hadden (...)

Where to start?

Bericht - 04 maart 2019 om 05:40 uur

The yoga and Buddhism journey has come to an end by now. Karin is on her way home, together with 9 more of our group. The others are scattered throughout Nepal, enjoying this beautiful country for some more days. I am back at Boudha, where I start my volunteer work for ROKPA. These last days have been amazing! So many things have happened, that I do not even know where to start. Let’s share the highlights then.  When we were at the Neydo monastery, we had one day of free time. Karin and I decided to walk through the village, and (...)

Day 4 – Prayer, yoga, meditation and walking

Bericht - 25 februari 2019 om 13:12 uur

On day 3 we moved from Boudha to the Neydo monastery, a drive of about two hours from Boudha, Kathmandu.  Day 4 at Neydo monastery started at 05.15 o’clock. We got up this early to witness the prayers (puja) of the monks early morning. They have their first puja at 06.00. It was very interesting to see. The monks that live in this monastery are boys between the age of 4 till around 19. Every time they have their puja, they pray for one hour by reciting and chanting various texts. It is accompanied by drums, a very intense vibrating (...)

Day 2 – Tradition, religion and birthdays

Bericht - 25 februari 2019 om 13:09 uur

The day started with singing, because it was Karin’s birthday! So right after opening our eyes, I treated her to the best singing ever after a few hours of sleep. Hahaha! After our meditation up on the roof, we had breakfast. For some reason, that breakfast was quite intense. We sat down with two other members of the group, and started talking about personal experiences. I shared my journey on the camino from last year, and explained why that was so emotional for me at that time. Before I knew it, tears were running down my face. I guess the (...)
