Time just flies!

Our training has already ended! It is amazing how time goes by so quickly. A couple of days ago Gerrit and I were still modifying our training, and here we are: finished. We had awesome days! The students immediately stole my heart. They are amazing, so friendly and enthusiastic, and so willing to learn and excited to do new things! From the first day we met, I felt we had a click. They participated extremely well, which made it even more great. All the activities, all the exercises, all the theory, and all the reflection: they all took it in, soaked it up, and executed it. The training was way too short, I wished we could have done it for a longer period of time. Hopefully they have learned from it though, and it ignited at least some sort of fire in them which lasts a little longer than just these last couple of days.

The last day of the training was really the best one. All came together in this one day. The topics over the days were non-verbal and verbal communication, focus, reflection, team work and roles. All of this was put in that last challenge we gave them, and we saw some wonderful things! Students that were in the background before, were now shining on stage and in the lead of things! They all worked together as a team, and communicated really well together. It is so great to see all of this happening in such a short amount of time.
At the end of this last day, Gerrit and I received thanks for our work by putting on a scarf. And chef had also prepared an amazing spicy chocolate cake for us. Such a nice gesture! We enjoyed the cake together with the students, and after handing out individual certificates we ended up taking pictures and selfies with the majority of the students. Fun!

Gerrit has now gone to go on his trekking, together with his friend. That means I spend these last couple of days alone in Kathmandu. Not to worry, I spend them well! I promised Jessica that I would assist her some more with the hospitality training. So now I have been checking CV’s and motivation letters from all the students, and on Monday we will probably give a class in this.

Today was a special day for me. Dolma, Pema’s sister, invited me to go to Swayambhu with her and her family. This is another stupa on the other side of Kathmandu, also known as the monkey temple. We were with 9 people: Pema’s father and two uncles, his sisters Dolma, Tsering Choedon and Dorje Dolma, a little nephew of him, the American mother of Dorje Dolma; Jennifer, and me. The day was just incredible. Up at the stupa Pema’s father tied prayer flags for Jennifer and me, to pray for our safe return back home. Actually they are not allowed to tie them there at the stupa, but they did anyway
J. Right through a restricted area, Pema’s father tied them. It was so special to see him and one uncle of Pema doing this, especially for us also.

After seeing that whole place, we practiced kora. This means we walked clockwise all the way around the stupa, spinning the over 2,000 prayer wheels that are there. My hand was black at the end
J, but it was such a special experience. Pema’s father would not miss one single prayer wheel, and just went on and on. Beautiful to see this religion and its tradition.
After we had lunch, we finished the kora and lit butter lamps all together. We then went back home again. What a wonderful day it has been! I am so thankful for being a tiny part of this family, and have them share parts of their life with me.

Sounds like a great adventure and experience. Enjoy your last days there. Soak it all up, live in the moment because before you know it you'll be back in Deventer. But there are a lot of students here you can inspire as well... ;-)
