The last time I wrote was when I left Arthurs Pass in February. Since I haven't found the inspiration to write again, but there is a lot to tell you about. Since I've left Arthurs Pass I drove down to Mount Sunday, a small mole heap of about a hundred meters tall in the middle of a big river valley. The views were great, but it was also a special place because it was the location were they filmed Edoras in the Lord of the Rings. I was actually able to piece together the city and see were all (...)Bericht - 16 februari 2017 om 22:12 uur
Where yesterday I was hopeful today would be a nice day, I woke up to gusting winds and dreary rain. I set my alarm for 7:30h but by nine I was still in bed, waiting for the rain to clear. I finally decided to get up and drive to Arthurs Pass. The weather there wasn't any better but the lady at the DOC center told me the rain should clear during the day. I used the time to get some idea of what hikes I wanted to do and after I just watched a movie in my car waiting for the rain to clear. When it (...)Bericht - 13 februari 2017 om 22:26 uur
And again it's been a while since I wrote. Although I like writing these blogs and telling you guys about my travels, It's though to keep up with the pace I set in november and december. There is still a lot happening and I'm still having a lot of new adventures but certain things aren't new or don't impress me that much anymore, there is a lot that I've written about before or stuff that's just not worth writing about. So sometimes it's hard to find new inspiration for these posts. Sometimes that comes in small bits and pieces, (...)Bericht - 01 februari 2017 om 03:16 uur
Today I need to get to Marahau to get on the water taxi that will take me to Totaranui and the start of my hike along one of the most beautiful and pristine coasts of New Zealand. Last night I stayed at the reserve again were I stayed before, because I was tired and wasn't looking forward to driving another hour or so to Marahau. But when I got up I had to rush to get my backpack in order and get to the water taxi that I forgot to get gas and my gauge is below E(mpty). I (...)Bericht - 01 februari 2017 om 03:14 uur
I am in the Golden Bay area, which is most famous for its mild climate, the golden sand beaches and its artists. When I went North from Motueka I ended up in the colourful town of Takaka, a small community (just a main road and some housing areas next to it) in a valley with mountain ranges in the east and the west and open towards the sea.Status update - 26 januari 2017 om 00:06 uur

Ever since the Great Walk of Lake Waikatemoana, I've been a bit restless, weary from traveling and all the new people and experiences, that I haven't found the time to write you again. Now that I start writing again, I'm afraid I can't recall all the details of my travels over the last two weeks anymore. So, here is what I do remember of it.Bericht - 14 januari 2017 om 11:00 uur
As I'm writing this blog I just crawled into my sleeping bag trying to warm myself up, after spending an hour at the lake side looking and listening to everything that was going on. It is eleven o'clock at night. The campsite is quiet, everybody has gone to bed. But the lake is quit alive!Bericht - 14 januari 2017 om 10:58 uur
A Great Walk. New Zealand has nine of them, all in different areas, all of different lengths and intensities but all are in the most spectacular places the country has to offer. Today I'm starting my first Great Walk. At Lake Waikaremoana, a big lake in Te Uruwera National Park. A lake that didn't even exist two thousand years ago. It was created through the eruption of a volcano and filled up with water. Today it is big, with a lot of smaller inlets and bays. The Maori lived there, the tribe was called Peoples of the Mist.Bericht - 13 januari 2017 om 13:21 uur
After the East Cape, I resumed my way South over the Pacific Coast Highway. At this side of the peninsula, the road wasn't following the coast anymore but was more inland. That means more up and down hill, more curves and less views. I drove longer between stops because there wasn't much to see. The towns there were small, uninteresting and felt a little dodgy sometimes. All in all, I kept driving South and reached Gisborne halfway through the afternoon. And not a moment to soon....Volg Mijn Reis © 2024. Alle rechten voorbehouden.
